Hello viewers welcome to InfoThirst. Before we get into the topic we would like you to SUBSCRIBE us by clicking the button in the navigation bar. Today we are going to discuss about Audio jack, it is a port in which you connect your headphone
Audio jack came into the picture in late 1800’s, and was used by the switchboard operators... it was a large jack, named as quarter jack. It was alive until in 1970, when sony released the walkman. 'The world’s 1st mobile music device' and it spread like a forest fire, and who wouldn't be interested in the device which allows you to play your favorite songs wherever you want / whenever you want. Which turned out to be revolutionary. And also introduced 3.5mm Jack, a smaller version of it’s ensistors. This was the next step towards that gave rise to MP3. Later this MP3 and MP3 players where popularised by Apple via. Ipod.
Music now was must, everybody was enjoying high quality phone calls and mood changing music until, in 2000 there was rise of bluetooth headset. But at the beginning accepting it was not so easy, the main highlight issue was battery life, audio quality, and rates. With many cons there was only one pro wireless, which wasn't a big deal. But this didn’t stop until in 2016 Apple the massive tech giant dropped the 3.5mm headphone jack. Apple is a dominating company in the smartphone industry, so everybody started removing headphone jack from their phones and this is not the first time eg.they removed the floppy drive, they removed the CD drive and many other things in fact now macbook only have C-Type port. Apple stated several reasons to remove headphone jack. This was a clear sales strategy, to sell their Air pods...Like it wasn’t a coincidence that they removed headphone jack at same time they introduced the Air pods. Not to mention the fact that light port connector is necessary and apple has the rights so if companies are making the headphones with lighting port they need to pay some amount to apple.
Listening to this new Samsung was major company to troll and to be honest they kept jack to a long time until now. In Aug 2019 Samsung announced Note 10 without headphone jack, the reason was spacing problem, the question is - You can fit a whole pen inside a phone but do not have space for 3.5mm jack.
Luckily headphone jack is still alive and companies need to understand that if someone is buying a mid range phone then they don’t have extra money to put on wireless headphones. And to be honest these midrange phones do 95% of work same as flagships one, which are way expensive. Like it or not companies are going portless. So the choice is clear, you can go for flagship phone with higher price and extra money for wireless headphone or dongles, if you can afford. Or you can with buy an midrange phone that can do 95% of same work.
