Dawkins initially defined meme as a noun that "conveys the idea of a unit of cultural transmission, or a unit of imitation". In my simple words the photo or video that explains the situation in a creative ways is known as memes.
1.Origination - The word meme was coined by Richard Dawkins in his 1976 book The Selfish Gene as an attempt to explain the way cultural information spreads; the concept of the Internet meme was first proposed by Mike Godwin in the June 1993 issue of Wired.
2.Most shared places/traffic - You can find memes on various places Eg. Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Reddit, etc. But the Facebook win in QUANTITY i.e. it has the largest crowd or traffic among all social networking sites.
And you can find best memes on Reddit i.e it wins in QUALITY.
3.Memes as a business - We are living in a generation where we can convert anything into business, from water to air anything can be converted into business in 21 century. When a thousands of people follow a page of meme's account on Instagram or Facebook, many companies pay them to use their product in stories and post even to give recommendation.
4.Promotion / advertisement - Supposed a product is launch in market which average in quality and performance, but everyone is making memes on it. Automatically the advertisement and promotion takes place, the reach of product increases more and more people come to know about existence of that product.
